Summer Theology Labs
August 5th - August 26th, 2018
Our theology labs are designed to be short-term, focused opportunities for topical study, discussion, and reflection (see descriptions below). Meant to supplement and support weekly worship and community groups, this round of theology labs will happen once a week on the 4 Sundays in August from 4-5:30p beginning on August 5th.
These summer theology labs are also a great way to meet new people and gear up for Community Groups which launch after Labor Day.
Each lab (or class or track) will meet each Sunday for the 4 weeks (except Community Group Leader Training which will only meet August 12th, 19th, & 26th and Identity in Christ which will only meet the first 3 weeks). You choose one lab that you attend all 4 weeks. The cost for each lab is $10/person and cost includes course materials (books, workbooks, etc.).
You MUST register for the lab you are attending so that the leader can have materials for you and prepare accordingly. The registration deadline is July 27th.
Also, childcare will be provided but you MUST RSVP, also by 7/27, by RSVPing according to your need.
ART & THE BIBLE
Calling all artists and those who enjoy the arts of all media! Join us as we ask: What is art? What is beauty? What is the role of art in the world and in the church? What is our role as little creators made in the image of THE Creator? We'll dialogue about all this and more, utilizing Francis Schaeffer's "Art and the Bible" and even explore creating a project together.
Led by Gayle Frazer & Brian Ferry
COMMUNITY GROUP LEADER TRAINING
Join us as we talk about the nuts and bolts of leading community groups, how they fit into our mission to celebrate Christ and serve Cincinnati, as well as practical skills in caring for group members. Required for new community group leaders, and a helpful refresher for any returning leaders. Unlike the others, this Lab will not have a cost associated with it, AND we will only be meeting for the last 3 weeks of the August Theology Labs (8/12, 8/19, 8/26).
Led by Josh Reitano
IDENTITY IN CHRIST
Join us as we look at false identities we as Christians often struggle with and fall prey to and compare them to the rich identity we have in Christ. We’ll explore fake identifies such as I am what I do, I am what I “look” like, I am what I have, and I am what I’ve been through. (Meets for only 3 weeks: 8/5, 8/12, & 8/19).

JOHN PERKINS: CHURCH ON RACE
John M. Perkins was born into a sharecropping family in 1930s in Mississippi and lived through the hate-filled and tumultuous decades after. He has dedicated his life to biblical reconciliation. This book One Blood looks at everything from lament and forgiveness to racial tensions and mutual fear. You will learn why “racial reconciliation” isn’t the goal. Most importantly, you will lean how to walk forward on the path toward oneness in Christ.
Led by Rev. Ryan Zhang
QUEST: PARENTING IN A SEXUALIZED CULTURE
Parenting in a Sexualized Culture will answer questions such as: How do I talk to my kids about sex? Why is the one-time sex talk not enough? How does the abstinence message fall short? How can I model purity to my kids? What can I do about all of the technology invading my kids’ lives? As a parent, how will I leave a legacy?
